There’s something conscientiously decadent and American about a hotdog made from heritage breed pork. Happy Independence Day!

Revival Dogs

Ingredients:

  • 6 Revival Foods® Sweet Italian Sausages (or your favorite Italian Sausages)
  • 6 hot dog buns
  • ¼ cup stout mustard
  • Farm Stand Refrigerator Pickled Vegetables (recipe here)

Directions:

Heat an outdoor grill or indoor grill pan to medium-high heat.

Fill a large saute pan nearly full with water or other poaching liquid (beer works great here) and bring to a simmer. Add the Revival Foods® Sweet Italian Sausages and continue to simmer over medium heat for 4 to 5 minutes. Do not boil. Remove the sausages from the poaching liquid and place on the grill and continue to cook until the internal temperature reaches 160º F. The meat of the sausage will no longer be pink. Allow the cooked sausage to rest for 5 minutes before serving. To assemble: Spread mustard on the inside of each bun. Place a cooked Italian Sausage on the bun and top with a generous portion of Farm Stand Refrigerator Pickled Vegetables. Serve immediately.

Libbie’s Food Styling Props: Our model for this shot was Salted and Styled’s own Brenda Anderson! I knew I wanted this recipe for the week of July 4th and Brenda just happened to be wearing the perfect shirt from Custard Boutique. The backdrop was a large piece of plywood painted grey. I layered the sandwich in her hand on a paper bag and then a pink piggy napkin from Caspari. When styling, I always think textures and simple layers.
