In the years before hoards of blonde-haired tourists packed onto head boats wearing skimpy bathing suits and sporting gold chains, the waters around the Cyclades Islands were lush with vegetation and sea life. You could dive just a few meters into the cool Aegean Sea and watch the sun’s light show through a curtain of seaweed. Blues, purples and the most vibrant greens performing their own under the sea modern dance. Then, Greece became a popular travel destination and the seaweed show went dark.
I was lucky to see the spectacle as a young girl…above and below the sea.
